Ilmars Viksne has a background in business administration (MBA) and engineering (Dr.sc.ing). In 1992, he acquired Doctor Degree in Engineering Science and now has more than 25 years’ experience in research and research management. He has long term experience in analyzing data (Excel, SQL relational database) and developing mathematical models for engineering design and business. Ilmars Viksne is familiar with promotion and commercialization of research results and the facilitation of the transfer of technology from research to application and provides expertise and business consulting. His current and recent projects relate to dynamic modeling, such as optimizing the processing of bulk materials taking into account mechanical interaction and air flow; aerodynamic efficiency of vertical axis wind generators; and the use of carbon in catamaran structural elements. C/C++ programming languages have been used in the development applications needed for these and other projects. Ilmars Viksne provides the study courses "Rotary Machines", "Optimization Methods" and some other courses for master’s level students in English and Latvian groups at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Transport and Aeronautics. He uses ANSYS and SolidWorks software, including strength calculations, dynamic process modeling, and continuous flow calculations. The acquired knowledge and experience with the API (C/C ++) allows you to expand the capabilities of SolidWorks and Flow Simulation for engineering calculations.
